APPLICATION Process For Residential Alterations (remodel, basement Finish, Etc.)

​

1. Gather, Complete and Save Required Documents below.

  • Save documents as PDF files, max 16 GB, each document must have a different file name for each upload even if the same document is being uploaded more than once. 


2. Use the On-Line Application Portal link (below) to fill out application & upload documents.

  • The online portal will not save application progress so have all documents ready to go before entering portal.

 

 

 

Do I Even Need A Permit for My Project?

​

Each municipality varies by price and type of project as far as what is required for permitting, but you can assume that any project that changes occupancy, area, structural strength, fire protection, exits, light or ventilation is going to need a building permit.   

​

To be certain, we encourage you to email our office with the details of your project, the cost associated with it (RS Means), and your address.  That way, you will not find yourself in a non-compliant building situation and at risk of fines.

What types of projects are considered RESIDENTIAL ALTERATIONS?

​

Residential Alterations
are any projects within a dwelling that are confined to the existing footprint of the dwelling.
​
Some examples include:

Enlarging/Adding Windows and/or Doors
Adding a Fireplace
Kitchen Remodel
Bath Remodel
Basement Finish
Electrical Service Upgrade

These are just a few of the projects that are considered residential alterations.  
​

Depending on the project, some form of plans must be uploaded.


For example, a basement finish will require floor plans. Floor plans can be hand drawn but please include labels with room use, room sizes, door sizes, and window size.
